
Biography
Kanchalee is a multidisciplinary artist and storyteller who was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. She has a B.A. in geography from Thammasat University. Upon graduation, Kanchalee studied filmmaking at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Soon after, she was waitlisted for Columbia University’s M.F.A. in screenwriting/directing and was accepted into The City College of New York’s M.F.A. in Media Arts Production (Narrative). After graduating, Kanchalee worked as an editor and event videographer. Her short films have screened in several film festivals and have been featured on Directed by Women (U.S.A.) and the Karibu News.
Her main focus and skills are screenwriting, directing, and editing. She has also worked as a producer at a production company in Bangkok, producing commercials and online videos. She has created projects in the U.S. called “New Face of Buffalo”, a coming of age documentary about four refugee youth living in Buffalo, NY and “It’s a Girl!”, an episodic series about women in professional careers, which aims to inspire young girls to pursue their dreams and expand their knowledge of different career paths.
Additionally, Kanchalee is expanding her love of storytelling through writing and translating articles on her personal blog and at Directed by Women Thailand, a group that she co-founded that was involved in educational activities in Bangkok.
Aside from filmmaking, Kanchalee has been practicing illustration in traditional methods using watercolor, gouache, colored pencil etc. She is an active member of the Buffalo Niagara Children’s Writers & Illustrators group.
